Temeraire by Naomi Novik is one of those stay-up-all-night novels. It is set during the Napoleonic wars, with one vital difference… dragons. These huge, powerful creatures make up an air-force manned by aviators, as well as a human with which they have bonded. Temeraire is beautifully written and cleverly imagined – it manages to be both funny and moving. I tore through the rest of the series in a month after starting this book, and cannot recommend it enough!
