HarperCollins sent out this amazing Press Release this morning!

HarperCollins announces today that it will release a new recording of George R.R. Martin’s A FEAST FOR CROWS, the fourth book in Martin’s bestselling series, A Song of Ice and Fire, narrated by Roy Dotrice.
Dotrice earned a passionate following from listeners and a Guinness World Record for his work on the series, creating 224 voices for the first book in the series, A GAME OF THRONES.
The new recording will be available December 15th from HarperAudio, and will be 33 hours and 48 minutes long.
The second season of the HBO series, “Game of Thrones,” will feature Dotrice onscreen as Hallyne the Pyromancer, chief of the Guild of Alchemists.
The A Song of Ice and Fire series has more than 12 million of the five books in print, including more than 313,000 audio CDs and digital downloads. The series has developed a huge cult following, peaking this year with the release of A DANCE WITH DRAGONS and the premiere of the HBO TV adaptation.

George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series has set the benchmark for contemporary epic fantasy. Labelled by Time magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world, Martin has conjured a world as complex and vibrant as that of J.R.R. Tolkien’s, populated by a huge cast of fascinating, complex characters, and boasting a history that stretches back twelve thousand years.
Three great storylines weave through the books, charting the civil war for control of the Seven Kingdoms; the defence of the towering Wall of ice in the uttermost north against the unearthly threat of the Others; and across the Narrow Sea the rise to power of Daenerys Targaryen and the last live dragons in the world.
Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men. All will play the Game of Thrones.
A major HBO series starring Sean Bean and a stellar cast.
Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plot, lust and intrigues; to the vast frozen north, where a 700-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond.
The HBO adaptation aired this year to critical acclaim. Cut-throat, lavish and beautifully filmed, George Martin helped to produce a fantastic TV series.

HBO aired a teaser trailer for season two.
Screen rant has more to say on the trailer and season two. We’re already excited here at the Voyager office. We were looking into buying an iron throne – we’re not sure that we can get it signed off on expenses though!
The first rule of war is never give the enemy his wish. But winter will be the biggest enemy. From beyond the Wall the undead and Others clamour for freedom, and from beyond the sea the long-dead Dragon King’s daughter hatches her revenge…
For these hardback covers we really wanted our design department to capture the style of A Dance with Dragons (ADwD). By bringing out the background texture, using a single light source on the crown and using the colour of the background in the tones of the metal, we were able to capture the design elements of ADwD but stay true to the original paperback designs.

The Seven Kingdoms are divided by revolt and blood feud, and winter approaches like an angry beast. Beyond the Northern borders, wildlings leave their villages to gather in the ice and stone wasteland of the Frostfangs. From there, the renegade Brother Mance Rayder will lead them South towards the Wall.

For the hardback it made sense to put the two parts into the one book. We used the design element, the helmet, from part one as we thought the shield on part two was too similar to ADwD.
This is my favourite out of the new hardback covers. I think the cold feel of the helmet captures the mood of the frozen North.

A Feast for Crows brings to life dark magic, intrigue and terrible bloodshed as the war-torn landscape of the Seven Kingdoms is threatened by destruction as vast as any in its violent past. The War of the Five Kings has ripped Westeros apart. The bloodthirsty, treacherous and cunning Lannisters occupy the Iron Throne, with allies as ruthless as themselves. Lord Frey was host at the Red Wedding, so called for the massacre of the guests, their screams unheard above the music of the feast. Euron Crow’s Eye is as black a pirate as ever raised a sail, sworn to deliver the whole of Westeros to the ironborn.
Hardcore fans will notice that the goblet is a lot less flat. I think the bronze works beautifully.
All of the emblems will be embossed and George R.R. Martin will be in foil.

We really do hope you like them. All feedback is encouraged! We know that fans of the series have been waiting a long time for these.
‘Fantasy literature has never shied away from grandeur, but the sheer mind-boggling scope of this epic has sent other fantasy writers away shaking their heads… Its ambition: to construct the Twelve Caesars of fantasy fiction, with characters so venomous they could eat the Borgias’ Guardian
‘Truly epic … with its magnificent action-filled climax, it provides a banquet for fantasy lovers with large appetites.’ Publishers Weekly
‘I always expect the best from George R.R. Martin and he always delivers A Game of Thrones grabs hold and won’t let go. It’s brilliant.’ Robert Jordan
‘George R.R. Martin is one of our very best writers, and this is one of his very best books.’ Raymond E. Feist
‘Colossal, staggering … Martin captures all the intoxicating complexity of the Wars of the Roses or Imperial Rome in his imaginary world … The writing is always powerful …’ SFX

What were you doing when you found out your book had an offer from a Publisher? Maddie, Surrey
I was in a coffee shop reading up about all the homework I would have in my first year of medical school. When my agent called and gave me the news, I laughed so loudly everyone in the coffee shopped looked at me like I was crazy.
Favourite fictional character? Oliva, Hainault
That I’ve written? Francesca DeVega, of course.
That someone else wrote? Lionel Essrog from Jonathan Letham’s Motherless Brooklyn.
Has your success in writing afforded you the opportunity to travel somewhere (for a con/signing) that you’d always dreamed of? @Whittaker83
I am absolutely thrilled that this year my US publisher is sending me on a six city book tour! We started in my home town of San Francisco then Portland, Seattle, San Diego, Houston, and finally Dallas. I’ve been attending conventions, especially the World Fantasy Convention for years, and it’s lovely to meet readers and other writers there. But there is something so nice about getting to visit readers in their own towns, see the sights and their favorite bookstores.
Who does your hair? Myke Cole, US coastguard
Gillette.
What do you like to read? Who are your favourite writers? Edward, Hertfordshire
I go out of my way to be as capricious of a reader as possible. I believe it is good for the soul and the mind to read both fiction and non-ficiton, books for adults and books for children, etc etc. I put back about 3-4 books a month, mostly audiobooks. My most recent reads are Watership Down by Richard Adams and A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin.
Some of my (many many) favorite authors are John Gardner, Ursula K. LeGuinn, Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Daniel Abraham, Abraham Verghese, Oliver Sacks, and Atul Gawande.
Best moment of being a published writer? Luke, Edinburgh
I was visiting a different medical school and stopped by their bookstore to buy a textbook. When I handed my credit card to the cashier, he said “You’re Blake Charlton!” My stomach felt like I was going up too fast on an elevator. I’m pretty sure that might be the last time that I’ll ever feel that way, but once is enough.
Worst moment of being a published writer? Luke, Edinburgh
Reading my first lone star review.
Yes, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for (digitally speaking, that is) — the George R. R. Martin ebooks are now available to download! Why not get your copies today and catch up with the series before the TV show takes off on April 18 (for UK viewers, on Sky Atlantic)?
Not sure how we’ve missed this one, but we can’t let a trailer go by without featuring it on the Voyager blog!
My name is Rachel and I’m currently doing work experience here at Voyager. I’m an MA Publishing student and the staff at Voyager have been a huge help with gathering information for my dissertation. I’m researching the stigma that still surrounds the SFF genres and looking at ways to dispel it for good (I admit, it’s a little ambitious). I find that whenever the subject of what I love reading comes up, there’s nearly always a standard reaction.
Take the following situation:
‘What are you talking about?’ Someone walked in to the kitchen where I used to work and caught the end of the hugely enthusiastic conversation I was having with one of my old colleagues.
‘One of my favourite fantasy authors,’ I explained. Then waited for it: ‘the look’. The slight raised eyebrow any mention of ‘Fantasy’, or worse (in their eyes) ‘Science Fiction’ is often doomed to receive. The eyebrow twitched. I looked to my fellow genre enthusiast for support. She shrugged. Then she reduced a nine book saga of intricate complexity down to one dismissive statement.
‘It’s basically fluff,’ she said. And that was that.
I have been a fan of the Fantasy genre since my first Enid Blyton, which was my gateway to everything from Goosebumps to George RR Martin. But I still feel the need to apologise to non-fans for my taste in literature. I was once told that I wouldn’t have been hired by a bookshop manager if she’d known that I was a Terry Pratchett fan. From then on I was known as Pratchett Girl (I actually miss this nickname).
So yes, I admit it, I’m a fan of Terry Pratchett, and, yes, I have every Discworld title lined up on my shelves in their full, technicolour glory, but I don’t think that’s anything to apologise for. Perhaps it’s time for fans to stand up for their reading material. Don’t let it be dismissed as fluff. Next time someone asks you what you like to read, proudly tell them you’re reading a book about a dragon, or a kick-ass woman in the latest Urban Fantasy, or an alien invasion from the planet Blarg (that last one may not exist). Let’s stand up to stigma.
And if you do meet anyone who offers the eyebrow twitch – you could point them in the direction of the Voyager survey on Science Fiction and Fantasy. They might even win one of ten signed copies of a Raymond E. Feist title. Who knows, he could be their gateway.
You can also have a go yourself. Just include your email address for your chance to win.
I would be extremely remiss if I didn’t share this new, superb teaser from HBO… it’s bloody fantastic! Tell me, Voyager blog readers, is there a particular character that you are most excited about being brought to life on the big screen? I think before the series started, I would’ve said Tyrion, but I get shivers every time Aidan Gillen comes on the screen as Littlefinger — I think he’s perfect for the role!
Critics this week have been able to view an exclusive 15-minute preview of HBO’s Game of Thrones, and the buzz is definitely building!
“Visually, the thing looks fantastic, start to finish” … “Speaking of scaling up: the Wall? Wow.”
